Life Drawing: Part 2

Started the session by using graphite to sketch out the basic form of the model.

Then as a sheet was draped over the shoulder, I worked in charcoal to capture the texture of the material.

Another pose, included the model seated draped again in material, as my drawing didn't fill the space, I sketched the room lightly behind. To try to get the transparency of the material, I added emulsion roughly to veil my marks and adding layers. I feel this worked well.

Continued experiments by deconstructing an image, and combining them by placing infront of another's face and therefore mixing identities. Didn't quite work holding it with own hands, so attached onto a ruler.

This worked better, as could alter the perspective, making the body smaller or bigger in contrast with the head. The smiling face gives an idea of hilarity and fun.

The face turned towards the camera with the body turned the other way also adds to this idea of humour.

I also used a male face, and mounted it on a transparent ruler, to make the mixed identities more convincing.

Magritte style images

Inspiration for which was Magritte's The Giant 1937

By asking my subject to hold a book in front of her head, as Magritte did with a chessboard, it adds a sense of mystery.

I wanted to experiment further with a translucent object, and so I chose a bottle, through which the audience can see alittle.

By holding the object across the eyes, the mystery continues as I am concealing her identity and giving the audience only a hint of the unknown.

I made this short animation with three frames, which had 3 different colour solid layers.
