First Studio Session

As a get to know each other starter, we were asked to draw the person opposite. Whilst this was going on, groups were making 6 stills into a small animation with objects that express your personality.

This piece was to collage with brown paper the person opposite, I chose to pick out her most prominent features and kept it very minimal.

 This was a tonal piece, picking out the darker tones.

And then we were given many different characters in various types to make the face. I found this quite difficult.

And its summer already ..

After being caught up in all the hype of final show, its finished and summer has begun! Here are a few shaps of my finished project.

Printing my bags ..

 I had to measure my bags and the screen to find the centre and line them up. I started by printing black.

Here is my first sample, I thought the ink came through a little heavy, to combat this I found that if the paint was mixed equally with printing medium and quickly skimmed across the screen the image came out clearer.

 Green samples. I chose an emerald earthy green to tie in with my poster and the folky theme.

 Blue samples, this was to tie in with the festival poster.

 Brown Prints, this was to continue the earthy theme.

I randomly plodged on brown and green paint, this gave an interesting merge of the woody theme. I am very happy with the 18 bags I have successfully printed and the feedback i have recieved has been very positive.

Mount Spray used to attach onto tissue paper background, happy with the colouring, regal, also raised some  aspects to give a 3d feel. Next step is to screen print on the font.

Screenprinted Font. I am very happy with the finished product, I feel it has worked very well.

T shirt and bag design

Fineliner, I kept the owl silhouette and added a folk style design that I found on Pinterest. Because this design is going onto the t shirts and bags, I had to think about sizing and positioning of the writing. I swapped it from the top of the wings to underneath the illustration. I intend to send this design to a professional printhouse to have it put onto a screen, so that I can have a good clean finish for my prints

Finished Illustrative Vinyl idea

Practise printing lino onto a photocopy to make sure can line up. I chose the ink colour as it ties in with the muted tones of the branches and leaves.

Using Mark Hearld's illustrative methods and Andrew Tanner's composition of the English hedgerow plate, i have designed this vinyl cover.

Mark Herald

Herald has produced the illustration for  Nicola Davis' Children's book, 'Outside your window: A first book of nature' I like the textured and mixed media of printing and collage etc, I think this will suit my theme.

Guardian's of Ga'Hoole

Guardians of Ga’Hoole is a fantasy book series written by Kathryn Lasky and published by Scholastic. The series, which ended in 2008 with the publication of The War of the Ember, has a total of fifteen books. Apart from the main series there are a few more books and spin offs set in the same universe. The series was adapted into an animated 3D film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, directed by Zack Snyder.directed by Zack Snyder.

The film begins in awoodland setting and focuses on the owl's nest and primative urge to hunt, id like to take this as inspiration for the artwork for Marla and the Fulcrums.

St Judes collaborates with an eclectic range of artists to create and print unique fabrics.

Mark Hearld, taking his inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, Mark works across a number of mediums, producing limited edition lithographic and linocut prints, unique paintings, collages and hand-painted ceramics. Below: Bird Garden, Screen Printed, reminiscent of traditional red toile wallpaper.

Emily Sutton uses a combination these approaches in her current work, producing paintings, prints and handmade birds - as featured in World of Interiors magazine. Inspired by the relics of a bygone era and afternoons immersed in the contents of the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh and is currently working on a children's book for the V&A Museum in London.
