And its summer already ..

After being caught up in all the hype of final show, its finished and summer has begun! Here are a few shaps of my finished project.

 Marbled paper, unfortunately this surface was too wrinkled to successfully work into.

I found it difficult to cut into, i will try and resolve this issue by using stretched paper instead.



FMP

 I bought a tent from the internet, it is 2m x 2m and 2.5m in height

 This is the inside of the roof, where the structural supports are clearly visible, which i have to consider covering or leaving exposed.

I have also sourced straw bales, which are used for animal bedding, and are lighter than hay. They are 97cm x 35cm x 50cm. I'm hoping to have approximately 5 around my tent, laying doilies and vintage tea towels over them to act as seating, this was used in End of the Road Festival.

The Big Chill Festival

Founded in 1994, The Big Chill is an annual festival of alternative, dance and chill-out music and comedy, held in the grounds of Eastnor Castle during early August.

Portland Folk Festival

Dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the world's folk and traditional music. Working towards a sustainable future, offers a rich and diverse sampling of music, culture, art, craft, food and thought.

Moseley Folk Festival

The Moseley Folk Festival has been running for 6 years in Birmingham, West Midlands, Uk. Its a small scale festival, family friendly and very intimate. The exciting bill is made up of unsigned talent alongside established international artists.

Glastonbury 1970 - 2011

The first Glastonbury festival was held on 1970, and was organised in a hap hazard way, compared to the modern festival's infrastructure and security, which is meticulously and commercially planned, whilst retaining the hippie vibe.

 

Woodstock '69

Woodstock Music & Art Fair was a music festival, billed as 'An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music'. It was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskills near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel, New York, from August 15 to August 18, 1969.
During the sometimes rainy weekend, thirty-two acts performed outdoors in front of 500,000 concert-goers.It is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history. Rolling Stone called it one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
This music festival has been in many ways idolised but it was not as commercialised as many modern festivals are now.

First Aid Kit

Another band I found that fits the style of the Scandinavian folksy imagery, they are a Swedish folk duo composed of sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg, whose close vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. From a southern suburb of Stockholm, the teenaged siblings began composing songs in 2007. Their names spread rapidly over the internet after their cover in 2008 of 'Tiger Mountain Peasant Song' by the Fleet Foxes.

Beach House

From The End of the Road Festival, I found a few bands i really likes, that fit in with the style and image of the 'Happy Scandinavian'.
One of these bands, was Beach House, a baltimore duo has often labeled a 'dream pop' due to their show, atmospheric rhythms and haunting lyrics. Singer Victoria Legrand's vocals have often been compared to those of Nico.

Venue Research

I decided to research venues that would be suitable for my band to play. It has to be an outdoorsy, folksy sort of festival that was very laid back and intimate. I then came across the End of the Road festival in Dorset, ran by Simon and his friend Sofia, the kind of festival they set out to create was one where:

• You won't get all the over hyped bands headlining
• Most bands play longer sets than usual
• You can eat a range of quality food
• You can drink a range of quality beers
• The staff and security care about everyone and show respect
• The crowd will be there for the MUSIC
• We take pride in being an independent festival.

The idea with the End of the Road Festival was to organise an intimate festival with our favourite artists and to create a festival with a friendly and relaxed feel.
