Illustration Workshop

Informative Graphics
The London Underground is an example of informative graphics. By H. E. Beck, who realised that passengers didn't need to know where the streets above ground were. Simplified map still worked even when more lines were added. Taken for granted by public.

Life Drawing: Part 3

10 minute poses, graphite and charcoal, gauging the proportions

30 minute pose, Chalk pastels, experimenting with tonal colour, perhaps to small.
30 minute pose, Chalk pastels, continuing tonal colour, larger with better proportions.

30 minute pose, Chalk, difficult due to angle.

Decorating the boxes ...

I enlarged the Bon Bon template and cut it our of card then collaged on lots of images of the letter 'A', The finished product was not as successful as I'd hoped, as some of the lettering couldn't be seen due to the design.

I also enlarged the milk carton template onto card. Then I covered it in advertisement imagery, which i felt worked really well.

Paper Net Templates

I wanted to explore other types of boxes, and so found templates online. http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/index.htm

The Bon Bon Box Template - easily resealable and simple but still visually pretty.

Although a little more difficult, the milk carton net is widely used to store products such as milk, soup, juice and smoothies.

The pyramid box was a simple design, but didn't sit properly

In the purse template there is not much space inside, but could widen the gusset.

The 'puffy box' is easy to construct, its also resealable but the paper isn't strong enough and won't hold the shape very well. Template for packaging of Mcdonalds Apple Pie.

Scallop Box template is also easy to construct, comes with a lid and I like the interlocking aspect.

Opening flaps could contain instructions or other useful information.

Pyramidal carton with push in closure. Self closing mechanism but cone shape means cant stand up alone.

Self supporting carton

Angle sided tray with tuck in top.

Hexagonal envelope- base carton with tab locked lid.

Hinged double closet carton.

Honda minivan - company used as self-assembly business cards.

Cushion top carry carton.

Display carton, strong and rigid.
